| The mission for Jacob’s
Creek is simply to improve the quality of each vintage.
Our viticulturists foster viticulture best practice at every
step from the selection of the best vine planting material
to the selection and delivery of the mature grapes at harvest
through the ongoing management of watering, nutritional ‘feeding’
of the vines, ensuring the canopy (or leaves) is consistent
to protect the berries from sunburn and controlling pests,
whether climatic or other .
The focus is to produce and preserve the maximum amounts
of varietal flavours with an appropriate balance of natural
sugars and acidity that best suit the Jacob’s Creek
wine styles. This has to be achieved in an environmentally
sustainable manner.
A high degree of mechanisation, a grower culture of innovation
and suitable economies of scale are the drivers for achieving
these objectives at a cost that enables Jacob’s Creek
to retain it mantle as a brand that over delivers in quality
and value.
The Jacob’s Creek nursery has been in operation for
over 20 years, producing both field grown and potted grafted
and own-rooted vines. It is one of the most modern in Australia
and has lead the way in the such innovations as:-
- hot water treatment of vines;
- rapid propagation of potted vines;
- the selection of rootstocks;
- the provision of advice on the care of young vines; and
- the minimal use of sterilising chemicals during propagation.
The Jacob’s Creek nursery has supplied vines for all
new company vineyard developments and its contracted growers
throughout Australia. These vineyards in turn have produced
high quality grapes and ultimately the best wine.
