Incorrect Media Reports Regarding Counterfeit Jacob's Creek

Following recent factually incorrect media reports of current issues around counterfeit Jacob’s Creek, Pernod Ricard UK would like to clarify that this is no longer a live issue with no significant seizures since June 2012.

Following recent factually incorrect media reports of current issues around counterfeit Jacob’s Creek, Pernod Ricard UK would like to clarify that this is no longer a live issue with no significant seizures since June 2012.

Of the wine that was seized over two years ago, analysis by an independent Forensic Science Laboratory showed that the liquid was not Jacob’s Creek wine, it was poor quality and did NOT contain any ingredients that could be harmful to health, as some national media have reported.

The issue around counterfeit Jacob’s Creek was first identified back in December 2010 at which point Pernod Ricard UK worked closely with trading standards to clamp down on the distribution of such goods. This has resulted in a number of court cases and prosecutions.

Pernod Ricard UK is pleased that local trading standards investigations into counterfeit wine have been successful.  We urge our trade customers to continue to be vigilant and only ever purchase their wine, spirit and champagne stock through reputable wholesalers and distributors with clear traceability of supply.

Any customers who are concerned they may have been offered counterfeit product, should immediately contact the Trading Standards Institute via their helpline on +44 (0)845 404 0506 or our Pernod Ricard UK customer services team on 0800 376 5550.
The counterfeit wine labelled as Jacob’s Creek can be identified by a spelling mistake on the lower bottom back label on the imitation packaging; underneath ‘SOUTH EASTERN AUSTRALIA,’ the ‘WINE OF AUSTRALIA’ text is missing an ‘A’ in Australia and instead it reads ‘WINE OF AUSTRLIA’.

We request that if you are planning to cover this story in the future, that you contact the Pernod Ricard UK Communications team for full clarification.
